Ferschampenuas ( Russian Фершампенуа́з ) is a village in Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 4,368 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The village is located in the steppe landscape on the eastern flank of the Southern Urals , a good 200 km (as the crow flies) southwest of the Oblast capital Chelyabinsk and almost 50 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Magnitogorsk . Here the Kysylschilik brook flows into the Gumbeika , a left tributary of the Urals .

Ferschampenuas is the administrative center of Nagaibakski Rajon .

history

The village was founded in 1842 (or 1843) by Nagaibak ( Tatars, Russian Orthodox ) Cossacks who settled in the sparsely populated areas of the South Urals. It was initially designated as post number 3 of 32 fortified villages of the " New Line ". A little later, the place was named after the village of Fère-Champenoise , today's center of the canton of the same name in the Marne department east of the French capital Paris . There, during the Napoleonic Wars , the Battle of Fère-Champenoise took place on March 25, 1814 , in which Russian Cossack troops also took part. In this battle, the French army was severely defeated, so that a little later Paris was taken by the coalition troops and Napoleon abdicated for the first time .

To commemorate the events of the Napoleonic Wars, other Cossack villages founded in the area were given the names of various theaters of war, such as Berlin , Leipzig , Kassel , Arsi (Russian for Arcis ) and Parisch (Russian for Paris).

In the 19th century the village belonged to the Orenburg governorate , since 1931 to the Nagaibakski Rajon of today's Chelyabinsk Oblast. Before 1959, its administrative center was moved from the village of Nagaibakski to the larger Ferschampenuas.
