Argajasch ( Russian Аргая́ш ) is a village (selo) in the Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 10,061 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The village is located in the southeastern foothills of the Urals , about 50 km as the crow flies northwest of the Oblast capital Chelyabinsk on the western bank of the lake of the same name, without drainage.
Argajash is the administrative center of the Argajash Rajon of the same name . 60% of the population of the Raion are Bashkirs .
history
The place was founded in 1895 in connection with the construction of the Chelyabinsk - Yekaterinburg railway line . The toponym, which can be found in an older form than Yargojash , can be traced back to the Bashkir words jar and kojasch for bank and sun , which means, for example, sunny bank .
The east of the Uralhauptkammes lying, inhabited mainly by Bashkirs areas were as the main settlement area westernmost end of 1917 / early 1918 from Bashkir Central to parts of the first Kleinbaschkirien declared autonomous territory called. This included the area around Argayash. After the founding of the Bashkir ASSR on March 23, 1919, the place became the center of the canton Argayash of the Bashkir ASSR as an enclave within the then Ural Oblast. With the establishment of the Chelyabinsk Oblast on January 17, 1934, the area was transferred to it as the Bashkir national district of Argayash. The national circle only existed for a few months and on November 17, 1934, it was transformed into an ordinary Rajon with an administrative center in Argajash.

Culture and sights
In the west of the Rajon, about 20 km from Argayash, lies the Uwildy Lake, a recreational area of local importance. In the nearby villages near the lake Gubernskoje and Kusnezkoje are Russian Orthodox churches from the 19th century preserved. In Rajon are archaeological sites from the Neolithic period (Staro-Sobolewo and Novo-Sobolewo the village Norkino).
Economy and Infrastructure
There are farms, forestry and food industries in Argayash. The Mayak nuclear facility is located 30 kilometers to the north .
The settlement is on the Yekaterinburg - Chelyabinsk railway line (km 192). The road that connects the M36 north of Chelyabinsk with the cities of Kyschtym , Osjorsk and Kasli and continues to the north-west of the oblast runs through the town.
