Verkhny Ufalei ( Russian Верхний Уфалей , translated about Upper Ufalei ) is a city in the Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Russia ) with 30,481 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located on the southeastern edge of the Middle Urals about 140 km northwest of the Oblast capital Chelyabinsk on the Ufaleika , a right tributary of the Ufa in the river system of the Kama .
Werchni Ufalei is administratively directly subordinate to the oblast.
The city lies on the Yekaterinburg – Chelyabinsk railway line, which was opened in 1896 .
history
Werchni Ufalei was founded in 1761 with the establishment of the Ufaleiski zavod ironworks , which is why the city was known as ( Verkhni ) Ufaleisk in the early days . With the construction of another plant downstream in 1813, this plant became the Werchne-Ufaleiski-Sawod ( Upper Ufalei Plant ).
In the 1930s, a nickel smelter was built here based on local ore deposits . The associated growth of the place was taken into account with the award of town charter on April 26, 1940.

The city has a local museum.
The main sights are in the vicinity: the mountains and rocks Zhigirskije sopki , Bolshoi Kamen and Krasny Kamen and Lake Itkul .
