Leipzig ( Russian Ле́йпциг ) is a village (selo) in the Chelyabinsk Oblast in Russia with 717 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place belongs to Warnenski Rajon . It is located about 180 km as the crow flies south of the Chelyabinsk Oblast Administrative Center and a good 20 km north of the Varna district center . It is located on the eastern edge of the southern Urals a good 5 km from the state border with Kazakhstan , on the left bank of the Verkhny Togusak (Upper Togusak), one of the headwaters of the right Ui tributary, Togusak .

Leipzig is the seat of the rural community Leipzigskoje selskoje posselenije, which also includes the settlement at the Salamat train station 5 km to the east on the railway line (Chelyabinsk -) Troitsk  - Orsk (route kilometer 66 from Solotaya Sopka south of Troitsk).

The place was established in 1843 as a guard post of the Orenburg Cossack army near the then border of the Russian Empire to the not yet colonized steppe areas of the later Russian Turkestan , initially as a post (post) or section (Uchastok) No. 29 of the Novolineiny rajon ("New Line- Rajon ”, for the area along the border line between the fortresses Troitsk and Orsk). Like a number of other places in the region, including Bredy , Ferschampenuas , Parisch or the Varna Rajonzentrum, it was later named after the scene of a victory by the Russian army in the wars of the 18th and 19th centuries; in this case after the Battle of Nations of 1813 near Leipzig , in which the 3rd Orenburg Cossack Regiment had participated.

The Integration Association Leipzig - Bridge of Cultures e. V. (70 members) with the support of sponsors, based on an idea by the Russian filmmaker Nasur Jurushbajew, erected a monument of friendship between peoples made of aluminum in the settlement as a sign of understanding on a scale of 1:25, which is reminiscent of the Leipzig Völkerschlachtdenkmal .
