Karin Hochstatter's work focuses on her sculptural-installation work. In addition, other media such as drawing, digital photo collage, film and video installation are part of her work.

In her sculptural work, the artist often makes use of everyday items and consumables, which are placed in new functional contexts and contexts of perception through the artistic process. The materials used are mostly mass products (e.g. building materials or foils), but unlike Arte Povera, they come from high-tech production processes. By processing (such as incisions or folds) and joining, the individual appearance of the elements used is faded out , unlike with the readymade or the objet trouvé . The resulting sculptural works are singular events in space, which can never be reconfigured in exactly the same way again. They alternate »between form and its dissolution, order and chaos, between a recognizable intention and apparent coincidence«. Sculptural improvisations of fragile states, "alternating between surface and space, between object and projection, image and image".
