Franz Eggenschwiler (born December 9, 1930 in Solothurn ; † July 12, 2000 in Bern ) was a Swiss artist .

Life

Franz Eggenschwiler attended elementary school in Biberist . After an apprenticeship as a glass painter from 1946 to 1951 , he attended the Max von Mühlenen painting school in Bern from 1951 to 1953 and worked as a trained glass painter at the Wüthrich company in Bern from 1951 to 1968. From 1955 to 1971 formed the "Bern Working Group" with Peter Meier, Konrad Vetter and Robert Wälti. In the beginning he created pictures, sculptures and graphics. In 1967 he began making objects and jewelry from found objects and waste. From 1971 he participated in the " Etching Community Osterath " founded by Holger Runge in Meerbusch- Osterath . In 1972 he participated in Documenta 5 in Kassel in the Individual Mythologies department . In 1973 he moved to Eriswil in the Emmental, where he lived and worked until his death. From 1981 to 1995 he was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . He was married to Rosemarie Eggenschwiler- Wiggli (1932-2019), who was also an artist and the younger sister of Oscar Wiggli .
