Oscar Wiggli (born March 9, 1927 in Olten ; † January 26, 2016 in Delémont ) was a Swiss artist , sculptor and composer .

Life

Oscar Wiggli completed an apprenticeship as a mechanic from 1946 to 1949 and attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris from 1951 to 1953 . From 1956 he worked in studios in Montrouge (France) and Muriaux (Switzerland). He dealt with abstract figures. He created iron sculptures , drawings, prints and, from the 1960s, experimental photographs . From the 1980s he also dealt with electroacoustic music . In 2002 the Oscar and Janine Wiggli Foundation was established. In 2009 he was awarded the Prix ​​des arts, des lettres et des sciences du Canton du Jura . Director Claude Stadelmann's documentary Oscar Wiggli, sculpteur et compositeur (2013) shows Wiggli's artistic work and personality. His younger sister Rosmarie (1932–2019) was also an artist and married to Franz Eggenschwyler .
