Fritzing is free software that enables electronic circuits to be designed on a computer. The aim of the software is to support developers in putting their project ideas into practice. The software was created by members of the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences .

After the further development from version 0.9.3b (June 2016) had stalled, a new version was announced at the beginning of May 2019 and a new roadmap was presented. Version 0.9.4 was then released in December 2019.

Functions

Fritzing offers many electronic components in a catalog categorized according to assortment, which can be supplemented with your own components or components from other users. These components can be via a GUI in a virtual breadboard ( English breadboard ) insert and connect with each other in different views. The range of components also focuses on boards that belong to the Arduino platform .

The following figures show an example Sketch (operation of two DC motors via a H-bridges - IC using an Arduino UNO) in the available views.

After a circuit has been completed in Fritzing, it can be exported and published using implemented functions as a breadboard view, circuit diagram or circuit board view in the form of JPEG , PNG or SVG graphics. In this case, the developers at Fritzing ask that the name of the program be mentioned on publication. A button in the GUI can also be used to publish your circuit directly on the Fritzing website. The software can also be used to create parts lists and documents for etching printed circuit boards.

Other services

Fritzing Creator Kit

It is possible to purchase the "Fritzing Creator Kit" in the website's online shop. This is a set of various electronic components, depending on the version also with an Arduino UNO board, and a book in which various experiments are explained that can be carried out with the help of the set. The Fritzing Creator Kit is currently available in English and German. The set is aimed in particular at young people aged 12 and over who are supposed to immerse themselves in the world of electronics using the Fritzing Creator Kit.

Fritzing Fab

Within the Fritzing user interface there is the option of exporting your own circuit in the circuit board view and sending it to the "Fritzing Fab", which will create a circuit board from the exported file.
