As Front Great chests (also studs chests called) is called Gothic chests , which (on pole Old High German : Stollo) rest. The construction, which dates back to the 12th century, consists of four upright planks to which the transverse boards of the longitudinal and side walls are attached.

Front tunnel chests have survived in large numbers in the Lower Saxony women's monasteries. They were brought with them by the novices and contained their personal belongings. So-called chest corridors still exist in the monasteries of Wienhausen and Lüne .
