Nel Greenland

Nel Grönland , also Nelius Grönland (born April 4, 1859 in Barbizon near Paris , † 1918 ), was a German portrait and still life painter .

Life

Greenland was born as the son of the German-Danish still life and decoration painter Theude Grönland and his wife Simone Olympe, née Maréschal, in the artists' colony of Barbizon . Like his older brother René , he received paternal lessons. After the family had moved to Berlin in 1868/1869 , he went to the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts , where Michael and Julius Schrader were his teachers. In the years between 1890 and 1910 Greenland stayed in the Netherlands several times .
