The Fronwagplatz is centrally located in Schaffhausen situated old town, car-free place . It is the platform for various events, such as the August 1st speeches. There are two colorful fountains on the square, the Landsknechtbrunnen or Metzgerbrunnen near the Fronwagturm and the Mohrenbrunnen . The square is dominated by the Fronwag tower. The big market scales used to hang in it. It can be viewed today in the All Saints' Day Museum . The astronomical clock of Joachim Habrecht , the father of Isaak Habrecht, is worth mentioning in the gable of the Fronwag tower . It dates from 1564 and shows 10 different astronomical functions. The bell of the castle chapel of Balm Castle hangs in the roof turret on the Fronwagturm .

Surname

The Fronwagplatz got its name because the ships used to have to unload their goods because of the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. The goods were brought to the Fronwagplatz, which was also a stacking area , where they were weighed on large scales and then reloaded onto ships below the Rhine Falls.
