Frosti Sigurjónsson (2013)

Frosti Sigurjónsson (born December 19, 1962 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic businessman and politician ( Progress Party ).

Life

Frosti holds an MBA from London Business School (1991). He was CEO of various Icelandic companies, including CCP Games from 1999 to 2005 . In 2005 he co-founded the travel search engine Dohop , where he served as managing director until 2010 and then as chairman of the board. He was also a co-founder and, from 2009 to 2013, CEO of DataMarket , an information visualization company.

Since the Icelandic parliamentary election on April 27, 2013 , Frosti was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the constituency of Reykjavík North . He was chairman of the parliamentary committee on economic affairs and trade and a member of the committee on foreign affairs. Frosti Sigurjónsson had announced that he would not run for the general election in Iceland in 2016 . In fact, he was on the list of the Progressive Party for the constituency of Reykjavík North, but in the last place on the list. The Progress Party could no longer win seats in this constituency.

In 2017 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Iceland .

Reform of the Icelandic monetary system

In spring 2015, Frosti Sigurjónsson was commissioned by the then Prime Minister of Iceland, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson , to find out why the financial crisis of 2008–2011 hit Iceland particularly hard. In his investigation, Frosti comes to the conclusion that the central problem lies in the creation of money via the bank money . Frosti Sigurjónsson advocates control of the money supply by the states. This corresponds to the goals pursued by the Association for Monetary Modernization of the Swiss Hansruedi Weber .
