The fruit peel , also called peel for short , is the outer shell of a fruit . You can membranous (z. B. the apple or the peach ), leathery (as in the citrus fruits ) or woody (as in the walnut fruit , also called because of their hard shell nuts are referred to) be.

Botanically, the shell can only consist of the exocarp, or the entire pericarp can be fused together to form a shell (as in the case of the nut fruits).
