fruux is a cross-platform online service operated by fruux GmbH in Münster . The service enables its users to automatically keep address books, calendars and todo lists up-to-date on various devices.

fruux uses encrypted SSL transmission and supports the resolution of sync conflicts if data has been changed on more than one device simultaneously.

Value proposition

The service has similarities to services such as iCloud and Plaxo . Fruux focuses on the synchronization of address books, calendars and to-do lists between a large number of end devices. Since 2011, fruux has also supported the synchronization of calendars on iOS and other CalDAV -compatible end devices, as well as address book synchronization on iOS and other CardDAV -compatible devices.

Underlying technology

The service is operated entirely on Amazon Web Services ' infrastructure. The company uses Amazon Elastic Load Balancing , Amazon EC2 and Amazon EBS to run its nginx web server. Among other things, Amazon S3 is used for versioning application code. Fruux also uses Amazon RDS for database administration and Amazon Simple Email Service (SES) for sending emails. As a framework for WebDAV is doing saber / dav used.

Position in the market

As a cross-platform service, fruux has to position itself on the market against strong competitive products such as iCloud. In May 2012, the company released functions for device management and is working (as of 2012) on a team version to differentiate its product from the competition. A calendar sharing function released in August 2012 allows users to invite other users to an existing calendar and to assign individual authorizations (read-only / read-write) - this functionality gives a first preview of the planned offers for teams.

In March 2012 fruux was able to secure a six-digit financing round led by the High-Tech Gründerfonds .
