Fuad Hussein ( Arabic فؤاد حسين, DMG Fuʾād Ḥusain , Sorani فوئاد حوسێن, * 1946 in Chanaqin , Kingdom of Iraq ) is an Iraqi politician. Since June 6, 2020, he has been his country's foreign minister in the government of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi . He previously served in the government of Adil Abd al-Mahdi as Iraqi finance minister.

Career

Fuad Hussein is of Kurdish descent. In 1971 he graduated from Baghdad University . He then studied international relations in the Netherlands . In 2003, after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, he was appointed Senior Advisor in the Iraqi Ministry of Education and played an important role in the development of new curricula for Iraqi schools. He then became Masoud Barzani's chief of staff .

In 2018, Hussein was nominated for the office of Iraqi President, but lost the vote in parliament with 22 votes against Barham Salih 219 votes. In the same year he became Minister of Finance under Prime Minister Abd al-Mahdi. Foreign Minister under Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi in June 2020.

Hussein speaks Kurdish, English, Arabic and Dutch.
