Mr. Fuchs and Mrs. Elster were two characters in the children's program on German television .

Content

The hallmarks of the series were the constant squabbling between the two characters, reminiscent of a married couple, who always sifted, didn't live together and quickly got along after a quarrel. Mr. Fuchs always lived in his building with a door that creaked with every movement and “little magpies” in their nest. In contrast to the lovely and lovely inhabitants of the fairy tale land, the two brawlers appeared a bit more anarchist, which explains their popularity with the children. Some of the fox's sayings and exclamations such as "Hassassassassassass", "Cross spider and crossbill", "Cuckoo egg and hoopoe" or, commenting on the essence of Mrs. Elster: "This person!" He also occasionally sang the song “ The fox goes through the forest”, which follows the melody of the song Das Lied von der Post . Often, however, he changed it to match his current job, for example: Mr. Fuchs is waxing his skis or: Mr. Fuchs has plans for today .

Emergence

The first broadcast was on March 9, 1961. The concept and the hand puppets were developed by Hans Schroeder . Originally, both were only intended as marginal figures when they were introduced to the world of the fairy tale forest in the late 1950s. Their appearance and demeanor were also different from what most people remember today. Especially with Mrs. Elster there was a great external development. At first it looked like a scruffy crow. In a second phase she was a sparrow-like being. It was not until the third version of the doll that the final appearance was found. In the beginning, both characters had a cunning, even downright criminal character. Over time, they became friendlier and more popular, until they became the stars of the evening greeting of the show Our Sandman alongside Pittiplatsch and Schnatterinchen . The approximately 1350 episodes were filmed between 1961 and 1991. In addition to the films, there were also several books, radio plays and slide series with and about Fox and Elster.
