The Fugaku-fūketsu ( Japanese 富 岳 風 穴 , German "Fuji Wind Cave") is a large, natural volcanic cave in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan . It is located on the northern flank of Mount Fuji (also called Fugaku) and was created by the drying up of underground lava flows. Your entrance is somewhat hidden in the notorious Aokigahara forest. The cave itself is about 201 m long and about 8.7 m high. Throughout the year, ice formations created in the previous winter can be viewed at certain points, as well as rope-like soil structures made from cooled Pāhoehoe lava . A special feature of the cave is that there is no echo because the basalt walls largely swallow the sound.

The wind cave has been a natural monument and popular travel and excursion destination since 1929, and it plays an important role in the local tourism industry. It is for centuries as a natural refrigerator for silkworm - cocoons used and eggs and acorns, because the temperatures in the chambers all year around freezing point: lie (maximum temperature + 3 ° C). For this reason, too, tourists seek refuge in the cave, especially during the summer heat. The Narusawa Ice Cave and the Saiko Bat Cave are located near the wind cave .
