Frank Wellert

Frank Wellert (born July 19, 1976 in Leonberg ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn ).

Live and act

At the age of eight, Wellert received trumpet lessons in the local music association, where he played until he was 18 years old. After studying jazz trumpet from 1997 to 2002 at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart with Claus Stötter , he moved to Cologne. He played in the State Youth Jazz Orchestra of Baden-Württemberg and in the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra . Between 2001 and 2003 he completed a postgraduate course in "Artistic Education" in Stuttgart. From 2003 he was the lead trumpeter for live and studio productions. He also appeared in numerous television appearances for the Big Band from Deutschland sucht den Superstar and has been a member of the Pepe Lienhard orchestra since 2005 . He toured with Lienhard with Udo Jürgens and appeared on the RTL program Let's Dance . From 2008 to 2010 he was employed in the SWR Big Band . Wellert has been a member of the hr big band since 2010 , in which he has been the lead trumpeter since then.

According to the discographer Tom Lord, he was involved in ten recording sessions in the field of jazz between 2005 and 2016 , in addition to the aforementioned also with Bobby Burgess ( Live at Rosenau, Vol. 2 , Mons , 2006), Toshiko Akiyoshi / SWR Big Band ( Let Freedom Sing , 2007) and productions by the hr big band with John Hollenbeck ( Songs I Like a Lot , 2010), Rebekka Bakken ( Little Drop of Poison , 2013) and Julian Argüelles ( Phronesis: The Behemoth , 2017).
