The museum was set up in the Fuggerei's last originally preserved residential building and is divided into two areas: In three rooms, which were furnished in the style of the 18th century, an impression of the original life in the Fuggerei can be gained - for those interested in today's lifestyle There is also a separate “show apartment” in another building.

In a didactic area, which was considerably expanded and modernized in 2006, the history of the Fuggerei and the Fugger family is highlighted in more detail with films, text and picture panels and various exhibits . In addition, regardless of the museum, information boards in the outdoor area point out historical or structural details of some buildings.
