Fujiwara no Yorimichi
Fujiwara no Yorimichi ( Japanese 藤原 頼 通 ; * 990 ; † 1074 ), son of Fujiwara no Michinaga , followed his father in 1017 in the position of sesshō , and kampaku from 1020 to 1068 . In both positions, he acted as the emperor's regent , as were many of his ancestors and successors.
Before assuming the position of regent, Yorimichi held the title of nidaijin , the lowest rank of state minister. By edict he was raised above his colleagues as Ichi no Hito , or "First Subject". This was presumably necessary to allow Yorimichi to become sesshō and kampaku.
He is also known as the founder of the Phoenix Hall in Byōdō-in Temple in Uji .
