The Reconstruction Agency ( Jap. 復興庁 , "Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority," English. Reconstruction Agency ) is an agency of the Japanese central government to coordinate the reconstruction after the Great Earthquake of 2011 Ostjapanischen . It was set up on February 10, 2012 and replaced the previous Higashi-Nihon Daishinsai fukkō taisaku hombu (about "Department for Reconstruction Measures after the Great East Japan Earthquake"; English Reconstruction Headquarters in response to Great East Japan Earthquake ) at the Cabinet Secretariat ; Since then, a separate "reconstruction minister " ( fukkō-daijin ) in the cabinet is responsible for the authority.

The seat of the Fukkō-chō is in the Akasaka district, Minato district , Tokyo prefecture ; It also has three branch offices, six branches in the main disaster area in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, and two other offices in Aomori and Ibaraki prefectures. A total of seven political state secretaries - three fuku-daijin and four daijin-seimukan - and one permanent state secretary ( jimujikan ) report to the minister .

The basis of the facility were the Higashi-Nihon Daishinsai fukkō kihon-hō ( 東 日本 大 震災 復興 基本法 , "Basic Law for Reconstruction after the Great East Japanese Earthquake") of June 2011 and a separate law on the establishment of the authority ( Fukkō-chō setchi-hō ) from December 2011. The authority was originally intended to last until March 2021, ten years after the earthquake. Thereafter, according to a plan proposed in 2019 by the governing parties LDP and Kōmeitō , it should basically continue to exist.
