Fuku Shidōin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fuku Shidōin ( Japanese 副 指導員 ) is a Japanese form of address that is mainly used in Budō .

meaning

The word means “assistant leader”, “assistant instructor” or “representative of the teacher” and is usually used to denote an official, barely experienced teacher or teacher in training within an institution.

origin

Fuku ( ) is placed as a suffix in front of the title and means deputy, auxiliary, minor or vice-.

The word Shidōin ( 指導員 ) is derived from Shidō (suru) ( 指導 (す る) ). It consists of the Kanji yubi ( ), which as a noun finger and as a verb sasu ( 指す ) show means. Michibiku ( 導 く ) means to lead .

use

It is the lowest of three honorary degrees. The level above Fuku Shidōin is that of Shidōin , which means a teacher or instructor. The top level is that of Shihan , which very experienced teachers wear.

Different Budō and associations have different requirements for using this form of address; however, it generally refers to 2nd or 3rd Dan . However, these forms of address are often detached from the Dan grades and a lot more specific than the more general " Sensei " .

The salutations Fuku Shidōin, Shidōin and Shihan are roughly equivalent to the salutations Renshi , Kyoshi and Hanshi , which are often used in other Budō.
