Full-spectrum dominance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Full-spectrum dominance is an operational concept of the US armed forces that is based on the theory that real military superiority can only be achieved through simultaneous control of all operational levels across the armed forces . In addition to the classic three ( land , sea , air ), space , the electromagnetic level and information warfare ( cf. cyberspace ; cyber war ; network-centric warfare ) are also included.

Real control in the sense of full-spectrum dominance can only be enforced by adequately staffing all levels with appropriate resources.

US military doctrine

The military doctrine of the United States supports the strategic intention of the status of a full-spectrum dominance in an armed conflict by addressing any potential enemy and for that to reach forces and measures necessary with all, either alone or together with Allies . This definition implies significant investments in armaments , not only in terms of budget, but also in the ability to wage war in a superior manner and to master the necessary logistical challenges by means of precise cost management . Only if these prerequisites are met can “supremacy in the entire spectrum” be realized in accordance with the stipulations of the Joint Vision 2020 military doctrine .

criticism

“I have said before that the United States is now putting its cards on the table in full frankness. This is the case. Their officially declared policy is now defined as 'Full Spectrum Dominance'. It's not my expression - it's hers. 'Full Spectrum Dominance' means the control of the land, the sea, the air and space and all accompanying resources. "

- Harold Pinter in his speech at the acceptance of the Nobel Prize in 2005

"It is true, although it is seldom recognized in the control-mad world of the military that 'Full Spectrum Dominance' in the global information environment is impossible."

- Philip Taylor, Professor at the University of Leeds and Advisor to the US and UK Governments in 2005
