Foundation (animal breeding)

In animal breeding, the foundation describes the state of an animal. A good foundation is characterized by a correct leg position, anatomically correct ankle joints and sufficient claw substance . A poor foundation is a disease. Among other things, the foundation is assessed with regard to the shape of the hoof , the muscles, the bone strength and the condition of the connective tissue and the tendons .
