Fundamenta Mathematicae is a mathematical journal with a special focus on basic research in mathematics .

It was founded in 1920 by the Polish mathematicians from the Warsaw School of Mathematicians Wacław Sierpiński , Stefan Mazurkiewicz and Zygmunt Janiszewski and published in Warsaw . Today the journal is maintained by the Mathematics Institute of the Polska Akademia Nauk .

The journal's impact factor in 2012 was 0.529. In the statistics of the ISI Web of Knowledge , the journal was ranked 167th out of 295 considered journals in the mathematics category .
