building

The radio technology museum is located in assembly A (the market square) of the Hessenpark open-air museum. This part of the Hessenpark is located outside the actual Hessenpark and can be entered without admission. The Rauschenberg building , which houses the radio technology museum, has a historic pharmacy on the ground floor. The first and second floors are used by the radio technology museum.

history

In September 1998 a working group of people interested in radio technology was formed with the aim of setting up a radio technology exhibition in Hessenpark, which should also have a clear connection to Hessen. In March 2000 the exhibition opened on the first floor of the building. Due to the high demand, the second floor was opened to the public as early as 2001. In 2004 the house was named after Ferdinand Braun .

exhibition

The exhibition is supervised by the volunteers and is open all year round free of charge. A radio-television workshop, a radio station and an exhibition on the history of radio receivers are exhibited on the first floor . In addition, radio devices used by the military and the secret service and exhibits from the transmission systems on the Feldberg , the Usingen earth station and the large radio systems in Mainflingen are shown. On the second floor there is a living room from the 1950s with the consumer electronics devices of the time. The exhibition is supplemented by a display of communication technology in shipping and aviation as well as in cars.

Museum didactics and youth work

Courses, guided tours and special exhibitions are held in the museum. Young people in particular are addressed here.
