Lint filter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A lint or lint screen is a screen in a washing machine or a dryer .

Washing machine

The lint filter of a washing machine is located in the circuit of the drain pump , from which it was originally supposed to hold back lint and lint that could clog the system.

The official name for this component is small parts trap or foreign body trap: Its main task is now to catch hair clips, coins, nuts, screws, jewelry, nails and similar hard small parts that have been left in pockets of clothing, etc. and that can block or damage the drain pump . Lint, however, rarely causes problems in the drain pumps, and the grids of the small part traps are now too coarse for this.

Lattice-shaped lint filters must be cleaned regularly: this increases the performance, reliability and energy efficiency of the washing machine.

Clothes dryer

In the case of a tumble dryer, the lint filter is located in the airflow of the device, usually in the door or below. The lint filter requires maintenance after every drying process; it can be removed, cleaned and reinstalled without tools. Lint filters that have not been maintained or that are heavily clogged with lint cause high flow resistance, which both reduces drying performance and lengthens the drying process. Some devices detect fluff filters that have not been maintained or that are clogged with fluff and issue a signal to prompt the user for maintenance.
