Fyrk, King Sigismund III. Wasa , 1596

Fyrk (probably derived from the Low German Vierken - Viertelchen ) was a Swedish coin worth a quarter of an ore .

The coin was minted in silver from 1575. Their weight was around 1 g and the silver content was around 10%. From 1624 it was minted as a copper coin, in the first two years also as a cliff . The weight of the copper coins was initially 7.1 g, from 1633 and up to 1660, the last year of minting, 10.6 g. Mints were Säter , Nyköping and Arboga .

The denomination of the coin was still used in Swedish after the coin was canceled as a term for low-value coins, comparable to the German Heller or Pfennig. Fyrk coins were also minted in Denmark and Pomerania in the 18th century.
