Goose beak

The goose beak is a natural monument north of Ilfeld in Thuringia . It is a free-standing, distinctive rock made of porphyrite , which resembles the beak of a goose (or duck) and offers a comprehensive view of the Beretal towards Netzkater .
The legend of an enchanted goose-girl who fell in love with a monk from the Ilfeld monastery is entwined with the goose beak. A witch is said to have turned the monk into a rock when he waved to her from across the valley. When the shepherdess burst into tears, the witch turned her to stone too.
