The Gäubahntunnel is a 400 m long road tunnel on the federal highway 14 in Stuttgart . It is part of the new construction of the B 14 between the Schattenring and Südheimer Platz for the northern bypass of the Stuttgart-Vaihingen district . The sandstone tunnel passes under the Gäubahn and the outbuildings of the Rudolf-Sophien-Stift . Geologically, the structure is located on the edge of the Stuttgart basin in the Stubensandstein .

It was completed and opened to traffic in October 2003.
