Gårdatunneln is a 2,166 meter long railway tunnel in Gothenburg , Sweden .

The tunnel is located between Gubbero in the north and Almedal in the south on the Västkustbana . Until 1999 it was Sweden's longest railway tunnel. This year the Norrala tunnel with a length of 3,850 meters was put into operation, which was built as a result of the route between Söderhamn and Enånger.

Liseberg train station

The tunnel is two-pronged. It was commissioned on June 28, 1968 and was built when the Europaväg 6 (E6) was built with the E20 through Gothenburg south of the Wallinsbron to the Tingstad tunnel . After the line was relocated between Gubbero and Almedal, the motorway could be built on the former embankment. The alternative solution, to lead the motorway through a tunnel, was discarded because of the significantly higher costs. In 1993 the Liseberg train station went into operation inside the tunnel.
