Gérard Blitz (entrepreneur)
Gérard Blitz (born February 28, 1912 in Antwerp , † March 5, 1990 in Paris ) was a Belgian entrepreneur and yogi .
Life
Blitz was the son of the diamond dealer and water polo player Maurice Blitz and nephew of Gérard Blitz , who was also a water polo player and member of the Belgian Olympic team.
During the German occupation in World War II, Blitz participated in the French resistance movement.
On April 27, 1950, he founded the Club Méditerranée and opened the first resort on Mallorca / Spain. He is considered the inventor of the all-inclusive resort .
Blitz is also important for yoga in Europe. He studied at TKV Desikachar . In 1972, together with Claude Peltier, Roger Clerc, Nile Hahoutoff and André Van Lysebeth, he founded the European Union of Yoga , the European branch of the International Yoga Federation , of which he was General Secretary from 1974 and later, until his death in 1990, he was President.
He was married twice, first to Denise Libbrecht, then to Claudine Coindeau. He had four sons and a daughter.
