from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TKV Desikachar (born June 21, 1938 in Mysore ; † August 8, 2016 in Chennai ) was an Indian yoga teacher and author . He was the son of T. Krishnamacharya and Srimathi T. Namagiriammal and brother of TK Sribhashyam .

Life

As the son of T. Krishnamacharya, who is considered the founder of modern yoga, TKV Desikachar came into contact with yoga philosophy and practice at an early age. He was a student of his father until his death in 1989. In 1976 Desikachar founded the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) school in Madras.

The Viniyoga developed by Desikachar is based on the yoga principles of Krishnamacharya. Viniyoga is adapted to the individual needs of each student. This approach supports the therapeutic use of yoga, whereby Desikachar later distanced himself from the term viniyoga and wished that his method could simply continue to be called yoga .

Desikachar has three children with his wife Menaka, including his son Kausthub Desikachar , who says he is continuing the legacy of his father and grandfather. In 2012 Kausthub resigned from his functions after allegations of sexual harassment , but resumed his work in 2013 after unsuccessful investigations by the authorities - but since Desikachar's death in 2016 in his own institutes, namely Viniyoga Singapore and the Krishnamacharya Healing and Yoga Foundation (KHYF), whereby the KYM continues to exist in parallel.
