Göran Liljestrand

Göran Liljestrand (born April 16, 1886 in Gothenburg , † January 16, 1968 ) was a Swedish pharmacologist . He is known as a co-discoverer of the Euler-Liljestrand reflex (1946), together with Ulf von Euler . Among other things, he worked as a professor at the Karolinska Institute from 1927 to 1951.

Life

At the beginning he worked as a physiologist and in 1917 wrote a physiological doctoral thesis ( investigations into respiratory work ) with Johan Erik Johansson . In the 1920s he switched to pharmacology. He revised the textbook of pharmacology by the Norwegian pharmacologist E. Poulsson.

For more than 40 years from 1918 he was secretary on the Nobel Prize Committee for Physiology or Medicine . In 1938 he became a full member of the committee and a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . The German Pharmacological Society awarded him the Schmiedeberg plaque in 1962 . In 1932 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
