Götterdämmerung ( French title "Le Crépuscule des dieux") is a Franco-Belgian comic series. The plot of the series is an adaptation of the Götterdämmerung by Richard Wagner and the Ragnarök saga from Norse mythology . With the exception of a special volume, it was written by Nicolas Jarry and drawn by Djief .

The fantasy series mixes aspects of the Nordic saga as well as Wagner's opera cycle with historical events from the Great Migration in the 5th and 6th centuries, thus offering a less mythical implementation of the subject. The series has been translated into both German and Dutch.

content

In the world of the Nibelungs there is war, the Nibelung Alberich escapes the underworld and enters Midgard , the world of men, attracted by the call of heavenly gold. He wins the trust of the guardians of the Rhine gold and abuses it to steal the gold. Together with his brother Mime, he forges the gold into a ring, the strength of which gives him infinite power. This jewel is supposed to lead the world to Götterdämmerung, to Ragnarök. The story itself is mainly a retelling of Richard Wagner's tetralogyThe Ring of the Nibelung ” and some songs from the older Edda .

Volumes

The first cycle (volume 0–6) deals with the story from the robbery of heavenly gold to Ragnarök, the downfall of the gods in Norse mythology. The first volume was published in May 2010, the last volume of the first cycle in August 2012. All parts were written by Nicolas Jarry and Djief except for volume 0, which sees itself as the prequel to volume 1 and the role of the Nibelung Alberich and his history picks up. It was written by Jean-Luc Istin and drawn by Gwendal Lemercier .

In November 2013 the second cycle was started, which is to expand the entire series to 13 volumes. Volumes 7–9 of these have so far been published (as of November 2016). Draftsman and author are again Djief and Nicolas Jarry.
