The Favorner or Günster waterfall is a waterfall of the Schöderbach in the Murau district . With a drop of 65 meters, it is the highest waterfall in Styria and is one of the region's tourist attractions. Around 250 to 300 liters of water fall per second over crystalline rocks, through two cauldrons carved out by the water and three imposing cascades.
history
By 1906, ladders and climbing aids were built to make the waterfall accessible. The official opening ceremony took place on August 12, 1906. During the First World War , however, the climbing aids became rotten and falling stones destroyed the ladders.

In 1930 Schöder's Beautification Association began building new stairs. For completion on June 8, 1931, the marble plaque with the inscription was placed at the foot of the fall.
In 1954 and 1955 the facility was renovated and the footbridge rebuilt. The last renovation took place in 1994. The waterfall should have given way to an electrical plant. However, it was already legally protected by the order of the Murau District Commission of September 12, 1957 for temporary security. On January 20, 1959, the Favorner waterfall was finally declared a natural monument by ordinance of the district administration and thus permanently protected from interference.
