Krakaudorf is a village in the Schladminger Tauern in Styria as well as a locality and cadastral municipality of the Krakow municipality in the Murau district .
geography
Krakaudorf is the main town of the Krakau Valley , a high plateau that stretches between Schladminger Tauern and Murbergen in an east-west direction and has around 1400 inhabitants. On the north side of the plateau, northwest of Krakaudorf, lies the town of Krakauhintermühlen , to the west, on the south side of the plateau, on the Salzburg border, the town of Krakauschatten . Krakaudorf has a good 600 inhabitants.
history
Krakaudorf is one of the oldest settlements in the Ranten Valley, but from the Middle Ages to the 16th century it was also part of the Lessach settlement area . From the 13th century the area was subject to the jurisdiction of the Liechtensteiners . The abolition of the manorial lords took place in 1848. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
Former parish
Krakaudorf was an independent municipality in the judicial district of Murau until December 31, 2014 .
Since January 1, 2015, it has merged with the municipalities of Krakauhintermühlen and Krakauschatten to form the municipality of Krakow as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform .
The last mayor was Manfred Eder (ÖVP) until the end of 2014. The municipal council , which was dissolved at the end of 2014, was composed as follows after the 2010 elections:

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from August 1, 1981. Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, this lost its official validity on January 1, 2015. |

Culture and sights

- Sights include the mountain landscape, small chapels (including the "Styrian Lord God"), lakes and the Günster waterfall , which is the highest waterfall in Styria with a height of 65 meters.
- Customs and traditions play a major role in the course of the year. Every other year in February return in the "Damisch Mountog" ( Rose Monday ), the Carnival Renner again; a loud parade from house to house of about 50 people in pointed hats, followed by a merchant pack with horse, horse servant, smith, blacksmith etc. The origin of this custom goes back to the miners who lived around 200 years ago in the Bischofsloch des Prebers (2740 m ) Mining silver. These miners performed the circular dance, the Radl or Kranzl for the first time.
- Brand high timbered in many places in the valley sometimes up to twelve meters at Easter Easter fire . Oswald Sunday is celebrated on the first Sunday in August . The parish fair in honor of Saint Oswald begins with a procession through Krakaudorf, where the girls carry decorated statues of the Virgin Mary, the boys carry Saint Oswald through the village. In the afternoon, the Samson and the rifle guard make their appearance.
