Ranten is a municipality with 1155 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the judicial district or district of Murau in Styria . As of January 1, 2015, the formerly independent municipality of Rinegg was incorporated as part of the municipal structural reform in Styria .

Ranten is 11 km northwest of Murau .

The community consists of the cadastral communities Freiberg, Ranten, Rinegg, Seebach and Tratten.

history

The earliest written document was created around 1080 and is "Radintin". The name goes back to the Slavic personal name Radeta .

The political municipality of Ranten was established in 1849/50. This included the then cadastral and tax communities of Ranten and Freiberg. In 1873 Freiberg was separated as a separate municipality by law of February 10th. On January 1, 1948, the municipalities of Ranten and Tratten were forcibly united to form the municipality of Ranten. On January 1, 1965 Freiberg - again - and Seebach were incorporated into Ranten.

Economy and Infrastructure

According to the 2001 census of workplaces, there are 23 workplaces with 69 employees in the municipality as well as 367 out-commuters and 20 in-commuters. There are 97 agricultural and forestry holdings (50 of which are the main occupation), which together cultivate 4,592 hectares (as of 1999).

Together with Murau and St. Georgen am Kreischberg, the community forms the “Murau- Kreischbergtourist association . Its seat is the municipality of Murau.

coat of arms was awarded with effect from July 1, 1980. Description of coat of arms: In blue to silver split shield, a fallen rafter of silver and red, which is covered with three blue lilies in the front and three silver roses in the back.
