Mühlen is a market town with 883 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the judicial district or district of Murau in Styria .

Mühlen is located about 28 km southeast of Murau .

Mühlner bathing lake

The Mühlner Badesee is a dammed pond, which is located about one kilometer north of Mühlen. It has a water surface of approx. 7 hectares. The bathing lake is very popular with fishermen as numerous fish are used every year. The fish population consists of carp , pike , pikeperch , tench , perch , rudd and catfish . In 2004 a circular path was laid out around the pond, which enables walkers to view the pond from all directions.

history

The earliest written document is in Latin 1200 and reads "aput Molendium". The name goes back to the Old High German muli (mill).

The political community Mühlen was established in 1849/50. On January 1, 1965, the previously independent municipalities of Mühlen, Jakobsberg, Noreia (this municipality was called Sankt Margarethen before 1930) and Sankt Veit in the area were combined to form the municipality of Mühlen.

According to the 2001 census of workplaces, there are 31 workplaces with 106 employees in the municipality as well as 292 out-commuters and 21 in-commuters. There are 84 agricultural and forestry holdings (27 of which are the main occupation), which together farm 4187 hectares (as of 1999).
