  • The Schöderer Marienkirche is important for the culture of the community. An extensive restoration in the 1960s uncovered beautiful medieval frescoes. The pilgrimage church Maria Schöder was built in the 12th century and burned down almost completely. The cemetery was moved to the beginning of the village in the course of the restoration, what remained is the charnel house built on the churchyard wall, consecrated to St. Anna. The reputation as a pilgrimage church goes back to a plague vow of the inhabitants of Oberzeiring (Murtal district). This pilgrimage is carried out every year on May 1st, the pilgrims walk the 40 km at night so that they are in Schöder at the beginning of the mass. The custom of the "Schöderer / Zeiringer Vögel" also arose from this pilgrimage: According to legend, the pilgrims captured the birds in Schöder during the plague so that they could take them home, where after the plague all life had disappeared. To prevent this from happening in the following years, the residents of Schöder gave the pilgrims pastries in the shape of birds. The stories about the plague in Pölstal and Freital, district of Murtal (Judenburg) and the resulting pilgrimage were written down by the writer and pastor Fridolin von Freytal in the book “The High Court in the Birkachwald”.

“To the popular writer Fridolin von Freytal Geistl. Council, dean and pastor von Schöder 1877 - 1898 born in Pusterwald on July 12th, 1832, died in Schöder on February 12th, 1903 on the 30th anniversary of his admirers' death on February 26th, 1933. "

  • The so-called Baierdorf defense tower was built in the 11th century under Archbishop Gebhart . The defense system was besieged, destroyed and rebuilt in 1296 in the course of the uprising of the Styrian nobility in the Landsberger Bund against Duke Albrecht I in 1292. The defense tower is 29 m high and has six floors. The tower guards from Baierdorf lived on the sixth floor until 1641. The tower mainly served as a granary for the grain that was collected as tithe by the Salzburg archbishop . This tenth part of the harvest was the tax paid by the farmers to the archbishopric. The fresco of St. Christopher was painted on in the 16th century and is the second oldest and largest fresco in Styria.
