Cattle market

Cattle market in Pushkar , India

A cattle market is traditionally a regular outdoor sales event for slaughter , breeding and livestock ; it took place mostly on the outskirts because of the expected pollution and the noise. Since the Middle Ages, the place and time of the markets have been regulated by market law.

Sometimes fights and equestrian games ( fantasias ) were also part of the supporting program.

Many of today's farmers' , weekly and annual markets have their origins in former cattle and horse markets, which is partly evident from the name. In Spain, the bullring , which was mostly built in the 20th century, was often built on former cattle market areas.

The annual November camel, horse, goat and sheep market in Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan in northwest India is one of the most important in the world and is visited by thousands of traders and hundreds of thousands of tourists.
