In contrast to weekly markets , farmers' markets are traditional markets where farmers used to do their business and stock up on products for the next year. This is how cattle ( horses , cattle ) used to be bought and sold.

At farmers' markets, self-produced food is offered at stalls by farmers. In contrast to weekly markets, they are generally supplied by producers.

Farmers' markets have their own statutes and are usually run in the legal form as a registered association , for example the Munich farmers' market association or the Munich farmers' markets. They operate one or more locations according to their rules.

The city of Munich created the platform for this in 1989. The Munich weekly markets were expanded accordingly. This was initially tried as a test, but has become firmly established over the next few years.

The farmers 'market conference is held once a year for Bavaria in Herrsching am Ammersee, organized by the Bavarian Farmers' Association. In 2013 Josef Unglert and Siegfried Geier were the chairmen of the conference. The farmers 'market conference brought the farmers' market mile to life as a lighthouse event. This took place for the first time in 2010 in Munich. In 2013, the first farmers' market in Northern Bavaria was held in Nuremberg. Around 100 market stalls each present the farmers' direct marketing offer.
