Until the end of 2014, Winklern bei Oberwölz was a municipality with 863 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in the judicial district or district of Murau in Styria . Since January 1, 2015 it has been merged with the municipalities of Oberwölz Umgebung , Schönberg-Lachtal and Oberwölz Stadt as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform , the new municipality is called " Oberwölz ".

history
The earliest written evidence is from 1120 and is "Winchilarin". The name goes back to the dative from Old High German winkil and means 'with the inhabitants of the angle'.
The political community Winklern was established in 1849/50.

According to the 2001 census of workplaces, there are 11 workplaces with 43 employees in the municipality as well as 311 out-commuters and 20 in-commuters. There are 92 agricultural and forestry holdings (58 of which are the main occupation), which together cultivate 5,867 hectares (as of 1999).

coat of arms was awarded with effect from January 1, 1995.
Description of coat of arms: Divided by blue and red by two overturned silver right angles; In the base of the shield there is a silver mountain of three nested hills, from which a silver linden tree in the shape of a tree of life with a silver lily at the top grows in the upper field.
