As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the municipalities of Dürnstein in Styria , Kulm am Zirbitz , Mariahof , Perchau am Sattel , Sankt Marein bei Neumarkt and Neumarkt in Styria since 2015 ; the new municipality has the new name Marktgemeinde Neumarkt in der Styria . history
Settlement of today's municipal area can be traced back to the early Middle Ages, when Slavs immigrated to the region from the east at the end of the 6th century . The names in and around Zeutschach also prove the Slavic origin of the settlements.
The name Zeutschach developed from the Slavic place name "Zizawa", which was first mentioned in a Latin document in 1172 ( "locus qui dicitur Zizawa" ). From its Slavic origins, the word Zizawa can be interpreted as “water-rich, swampy area with sour grass”.
The political community Zeutschach was established in 1849/50.
population
According to the census results, Zeutschach had 234 inhabitants in 2001, almost all of them (99.1%) were Austrian citizens and the vast majority (97.0%) belonged to the Roman Catholic Church .
