Until the end of 2014, Perchau am Sattel was a municipality with 300 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016) in the judicial district or district of Murau in Styria .

As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it has been merged with the municipalities of Dürnstein in Styria , Kulm am Zirbitz , Mariahof , Neumarkt in Steiermark , Sankt Marein bei Neumarkt and Zeutschach since 2015 , the new municipality has the new name Marktgemeinde Neumarkt in der Steiermark . The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG.

The earliest written document is from 927 and is "Perhhah". The name goes back to Old High German përcha (birch).

According to the 2001 census of workplaces , there were 8 workplaces with 16 employees in the municipality as well as 99 out-commuters and 5 in-commuters. There were 38 agricultural and forestry holdings (22 of which were the main occupation), which together farmed 1,831 hectares (as of 1999).

The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from June 1, 1999. Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, this lost its official validity on January 1, 2015.
