Günter Konrad
Günter Konrad (born September 25, 1929 in Wuppertal ), actually Walter Günther Konrad, is a German homeland researcher , author and editor. He is the holder of the Rhineland Taler (2019).
life and work
After his retirement in 1992, the trained industrial clerk and former managing director of the Elberfeld Educational Association (1982 to 1992) devoted himself intensively to local research around Wuppertal - Ronsdorf and its surroundings. He is an honorary member of the Ronsdorfer Heimat- und Bürgererverein eV as well as a member of the Bergisches Geschichtsverein . In 2019 he was awarded the Rhineland Taler for his services to history and local history.
Driven by the discovery that historical artifacts such as photographs , especially from private holdings or archives , would be disposed of without being looked at and would thus be irretrievably lost for posterity, he began primarily to collect, organize and systematize photographs, and later also to digitize them to archive them and make them available to everyone. He links the historical image material with current photographs in order to illustrate the historical developments. In addition to various photo exhibitions, he designed "virtual tours" z. B. in the form of slide lectures around the Bergisch-Land clinic and through the Ronsdorf dam forest.
In addition to his activities as a local researcher, Günter Konrad was and is particularly involved in the Protestant church community and was instrumental in maintaining the YMCA Wuppertal-Ronsdorf after the Second World War .
