Günther Cloerkes

Günther Cloerkes (born April 23, 1944 in Wirkheim ) is a German sociologist who taught at the Heidelberg University of Education as a professor of sociology for the disabled . He is the main author of a standard work on his subject.

Cloerkes is a graduate sociologist and received his doctorate in 1979 from Bielefeld University . Research at the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim and teaching assignments at the Heidelberg University of Education followed. It was there that he was a professor from 1981 until his retirement in 2009.

His work focuses on: changing the social reaction to the disabled, intercultural comparison of the living situation of disabled people, family and leisure time of people with disabilities.
