Günther Joël (Ministerial Officer)

Günther Joël (born October 26, 1899 in Hanover ; † May 31, 1986 ) was a German lawyer and ministerial official. He should not be confused with the ministerial official of the same name during the Nazi era Günther Joël (1903–1978).

Live and act

Günther Joël was the son of Curt Joël , who served as Reich Minister of Justice from 1930 to 1932. After attending school, Joël studied law at the universities of Berlin , Heidelberg and Munich . From 1929 to 1946 he worked as a lawyer and as an employee at the Berlin Justice Administration. Joël then worked in the Central Office for Economic Affairs in the British Occupation Zone until 1948, and then from 1948 to 1949 in the United Economic Area Administration.

In 1949 Joël got a job in the Federal Ministry of Justice . From 1950 to 1964 he was Head of Department III (“Commercial and Business Law”), most recently with the rank of Ministerial Director. From 1954 he was also head of Department III B. From November 1962 to May 1963, Joël was also entrusted with the management of the State Secretary of the Ministry.

Joel was married to Ursula Wendt since 1946.
