content

In the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris is 1913, the premiere of Igor Stravinsky's epoch ballet The Rite of Spring instead. Coco Chanel attends the performance and is fascinated. But the revolutionary piece is too modern, too radical: the premiere becomes a gigantic scandal. Stravinsky is devastated.

Seven years later - Coco Chanel is now wealthy, respected and a successful fashion designer - the two meet again. The attraction between them is instantly palpable and electrifying. Coco Chanel offers Stravinsky, who has lived in poor conditions as a refugee in exile in Paris since the Russian Revolution, to move into her villa in Garches near Paris in order to be able to work there in peace. Stravinsky accepts Chanel's generous offer and moves into the villa with his four children and his consumptive wife. There a passionate love affair develops between the two highly creative people.

criticism

“The visually beguiling equipment drama is not least about controlling emotional reactions in a time marked by social constraints and expectations. Although the film often remains on the beautiful surface, the convincing main actors defy it again and again for moments that allow revealing glimpses behind the sophisticated facades. "

“As Chanel, the French Anna Mouglalis is an elegant fanatic, the Dane Mads Mikkelsen a wildly pounded musical genius. Incidentally, the film (director: Jan Kounen), which is extremely luxurious, but a little clumsy in Art Deco clothes and rooms, is a prestigious piece of pan-European cultural cinema. "

- Der Spiegel No. 15/2010 of April 12, 2010

"There is never any fire, the scriptwriters never thought of a right conclusion, but the interior is very tasteful and the wardrobe that the tart and distinctive Anna Mouglalis is allowed to wear is simply wonderful to look at."

- Peter Körte in FAZ.NET
