Günther Köberl

Günther Köberl (born January 27, 1964 in Bad Aussee ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and secondary school teacher. He was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 2000 to 2002 and from 2005 to 2015 . In between he was a member of the Styrian state parliament from 2002 to 2005 .

education and profession

Köberl attended elementary school in Bad Aussee from 1970 to 1974 and then graduated from the local secondary school from 1974 to 1978. In 1978 he moved to the Bundesoberstufenrealgymnasium in Bad Aussee and passed his Matura there in 1982 . Then Köberl attended the Pedagogical Academy in Salzburg in 1982 and completed his professional training in 1985, where he passed the teaching examination in the subjects of mathematics, technical works and computer science. Köberl then completed military service in 1986 and joined the State of Upper Austria in 1986. He has been working as a secondary school teacher at secondary school 2 in Bad Aussee since 1986. Furthermore, from January 2, 1996 to October 13, 2000, he was managing director of Bad Ausseer Kurbetriebsgesellschaft.

Politics and functions

Günther Köberl was sworn in as a member of the Bad Aussee municipal council in 1990 and was promoted to vice mayor of his home town Bad Aussee in 1991. He held this office until 1995 and was elected mayor in 1995. After the SPÖ's strong wins in the municipal council elections in Bad Aussee, Köberl lost his office as mayor and in 2000 he retired to the post of vice mayor, which he held until 2006.

In addition, Köberl was a member of the Federal Council from November 7, 2000 to January 21, 2002, before replacing Hermine Pusswald in the Styrian state parliament on January 22, 2002 . Köberl was a member of the Styrian Landtag until October 25, 2005, when he moved back to the Federal Council. There he was chairman of the committee for foreign affairs and deputy chairman of the committee for science and research. After the state elections in Styria in 2015 and the resulting new members of the Federal Council by the Styrian state parliament, Günther Köberl resigned from the Federal Council on June 15, 2015.

Within the party, Köberl was regional party chairman of the ÖVP Styria from 1996 to 2009 and was elected district party chairman of the ÖVP Bad Aussee in 1994. He names the areas of education, infrastructure and science as his political work priorities.

Private

Köberl is married and has two children.
